2011 Endorsed Candidates - Election Results

Find your candidates, polling place, and view your ballot at http://www.sos.ga.gov/mvp/

Runoff Election Tuesday, December 06

Dual Endorsement of Jeff Felser & Edna Jackson:
Savannah Mayor

These two candidates have exceptionally strong records in supporting LGBT issues in Savannah.  Their positions are so similar we felt it was not fair to the community or to the candidates to make an endorsement  in this race.

JEFF FELSER - LOST
Felser was elected to Savannah's City Council in 2003 and re-elected in 2007 and he has served for eight years as an Alderman at Large (city-wide). In addition to his employment and elected service, Felser is active in numerous philanthropic, religious, professional and community organizations.

EDNA JACKSON
- WON
Jackson is a Savannah native who worked for Savannah State University for 30 years before being elected to the City Council. She has been serving on the city council for 5 years and is the At-Large Alderman for Post 1. Jackson also serves as the mayor pro tem.

Carol Bell: Savannah Alderman at Large

Bell worked for the city of Savannah for 38 years, retiring last month as director of Central Services. She is a past chairwoman of the board for the United Way of the Coastal Empire. She is past president of Gamma Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and is active in the gospel music industry, serving as business manager of the Georgia Mass Choir when it participated in filming “The Preacher’s Wife.”

PLATFORM: Bell wants to see the city continue to increase its stock of affordable housing and plans to push for continued improvements to infrastructure. She wants to help the city and its residents work in a professional, collaborative way, and emphasized that for her, that priority wasn’t a reference to the current council or administration.

“I think with my experience of the inner workings of city government, I’m uniquely qualified to help the citizens of Savannah understand and navigate city government,” she said.

Tom Bordeaux: Savannah Alderman at Large

Tom Bordeaux grew up in Savannah believing that the best way for him to serve his community was through law and government. He has tried to put those beliefs into action.

Tom’s commitment to public service led him to seek public office in 1990, when he was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives representing a portion of the City of Savannah in Atlanta.

In his second year at the State Capitol, Tom became the youngest legislator to serve a Governor as assistant floor leader, helping to shepherd then-Governor Zell Miller’s ambitious legislative plans through the House.

Tom’s efforts and hard work were recognized and appreciated by the House leadership and his legislative colleagues. He served in a number of important positions in the House, ultimately serving as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, a widely-respected committee then begrudgingly accepted to be the hardest-working in the entire legislature.

Tom did not seek re-election to the House in 2006 so that he could spend more time with his family, which by then included their second child. Tom likes to joke that he is the first politician in all history who, when he announced he would not be seeking re-election in order to spend more time with his family, was not about to be indicted.

Tom has served on the Board of Directors of the Savannah Rape Crisis Center, the Board of Curators of the Georgia Historical Society, the Executive Committee of the Sierra Club - Georgia Chapter, and as a member of the Governor’s Commission on Certainty in Sentencing. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Savannah Economic Opportunity Authority (EOA).
