BACKGROUND & CURRENT STATUS

In 2007 Georgia Equality led the campaign which resulted in the passage of the Georgia Advance Directive for Healthcare (click link to download form), a state law securing the right of same-sex partners to ride in ambulances and have hospital visitation. In addition, we have successfully passed Domestic Partnership benefits for the employees of four large Georgia-based companies: Coca-Cola, Atlanta Gas Light, BellSouth and Delta Air Lines, as well as Domestic Partnership benefits for employees of Fulton County, City of Atlanta, DeKalb County, and Grady Health System.

We are working to expand these protections to more municipalities across the state, using these local victories as momentum for passing state-wide relationship recognition legislation.
